On The Boards: Logan Radius Addition

View of the rear addition clad with corrugated panels. The radiuses at the outside corners are a deviation from the standard detail typically seen with corrugated panels.

Composed of a duplex-up owner’s unit and a simplex garden unit, the Logan Radius Addition is a unique blend of a classic greystone 2-flat with a modern interior and rear addition. We utilized the city of Chicago's Department of Housing ADU Pilot Program for permitting of the garden unit—also referred to as a “conversion ADU”. The project gets its name from radiused corners at the rear addition are the result of a creative value engineering revision to keep the project on budget.

3D plan perspective of the first floor. The sun room at the addition is the area on the right of the plan with terazzo tile.

The addition is home to a sunroom, mudroom on the first floor and deck shielded by a green roof off the primary bedroom on the second floor. The green roof serves as backdrop and also provides privacy to the primary bedroom which looks to the deck through a large format window and glass swing door.
