On the Boards - Bowmanville Second Story Addition

A new project brings us to another popular Chicago neighborhood. We just sent drawings for this single-family home out to bid and we’re excited to see this project become a reality in 2018. The scope includes a full rehab of the basement and first floor plus a new frame second story addition.

The existing single-family home is a single story 1960s era bungalow which is commonly seen in Chicago’s peripheral neighborhoods. With rehab projects of this type, the goal is to do the most with the least which is accomplished by repurposing the entire one-story structure and then maximizing the allowable square footage with a full second story addition. The result is a four bedroom three and a half bath home with an open floor plan on the first floor which graciously connects to the backyard.

The existing exterior of the home also receives a major facelift with updates to the existing masonry on the street elevation and modern windows which maximize the amount of glazed area. In the end, less demolition waste is trucked off to a landfill and this little bungalow is adapted for modern use with a new family.
