Clock Tower Lofts

The Clock Tower Lofts lobby renovation reimagines the entrance to one of Bucktown’s most iconic loft conversions. Originally home to Kling Brothers & Company, a men’s clothing manufacturer in the early 20th century, the building was converted into lofts in the late 1990s. One of the first loft conversions in the Bucktown neighborhood, the 4-story project played a role in catalyzing the neighborhood’s transformation into the dynamic hub it is now.

Now, decades later, 34-TEN’s renovation of this historic building’s lobby enhances both functionality and aesthetic appeal while paying homage to its industrial past. The new design improves pedestrian circulation by removing bulky mailboxes and flipping them 180 degrees, creating a more open and inviting space. A new package storage area accommodates the needs of 118 residents, reflecting modern demands that didn’t exist when the original conversion took place.

Inspired by the building’s textile history, the renovation incorporates undulating white oak wainscoting reminiscent of flowing fabric. A custom carbon steel screen with a black oxide finish subtly defines the mailroom area while maintaining an open feel.

34-TEN’s entry design preserves the building’s historic character while optimizing the lobby’s layout and experience. The Clock Tower Lofts project seamlessly blends industrial heritage with modern functionality, creating a welcoming and efficient space for residents in the heart of Bucktown.
